angry man...
was out with uncle, as usual. went to his favourite kampong chicken rice restn along thomson road.damn crowded. probably due to ppl who jus finished their services at nearby churches and also ppl from kong meng san after their offerings for qingming.
both of us were already very hungry. but finally managed a get a table by the restn helpers. i shall not call them waitresses bcoz they are aunties whom i find too old to be fit to called waitress.
well, they gav us a table which way back at a corner; jus outside the toliet entry and kitchen door. luckily, the toliet didnt stink. however, it was too stuffy with the wall fan blowing hot air from the drink fridge to us.
then, one aunty came to take our orders. usually, it would take abt 8min for the chopping of chickie to serving the chickie to customers' table. bcoz there's isnt any additional orders for the kitchen to cook, so should be of lesser time to stuff our faces with the food.
as we are not new to the restn already, had been patronising for at least 6mths every other sunday after my teaching at united sq.
yet, our chickie was not served to us past 20min!
uncle sat facing the dining floor, observing the runners with plates of chickies serving to those customers who reached after us. even, cooks from the kitchen pestered the runners for our orders.
finally, a half chickie and "transparent" chickie feet placed onto our table, with 2bowls of rice and soup. as i turned to the table behind for the sauces, and uncle walked to the counter for the chopsticks, IN LESS THAN A MINUTE, an aunty took away that plate of chickie and feet! apologising that it belonged to another order.
uncle gets more furious. especially with the pins and needles from his injured hip and thighs.
he observed for another 3serves which are obviously not before our arrival.
he held up his bowl of rice. didnt say a word. CLAP! overturned that bowl of rice onto the table.
customers of other tables turned and looked at us.
i was shocked bcoz he didnt say that he would sth like that. not mentally prepared at all. he signaled me to leave the place. we walked past the counter si-bay hao-lian-ly, without the runners apologising nor stopping us at all!
back in the car,
i: when are we coming back?
he: not that soon. not anymore.
i: u sure not coming back? it's ur favourite so far. somemore, it's kampong chicken.
he: so what? other places might have the same standard too.
we moved on to the air-conditioned prata house which situated further up that chickie restn. settled with pratas, thosai, briyani and mutton curry and completed with familiar smilies from the indian cooks.
